The Road To Parliament
Programme Launch for International Women’s Day 2020
Equality is at the core of the TG political mission, and our leader, Marlene Hassan Nahon, continues to fight for better conditions for our women from our small corner of Parliament. However, it is important that women in the community understand that the only way to address structural gender inequalities, both present and future, is to enhance the participation of women in politics. Currently, there are only two women in Parliament and fifteen men.
For Together Gibraltar, the road to real Equality runs (necessarily) through Parliament. Marking the celebration of International Women’s Day 2020, we will be launching a programme aimed at increasing the number of women involved in local politics by setting up a working group for this purpose.
This group will be made up of 4 of our candidates to the 2019 election, MP Marlene Hassan-Nahon, Jackie Anderson, Erika Pozo and Tamsin Suarez. The Road to Parliament program is a roadmap designed to expose and cultivate women’s political aspirations and their interest in public leadership roles, regardless of political ideology, age or background.
We have a social responsibility to call upon women to rise to the challenge and improve representation in our politics. With this initiative, we wish to encourage women to overcome the barriers preventing fair and equal representation in Parliament.
The Road to Parliament programme will include:
Access to our “Road to Parliament” forum
Workshops and leadership courses
Networking and establishing a community
Parliamentary experience day
Opportunities for work experience with MP Marlene Hassan Nahon
Our Road to Parliament programme launch will be on Thursday 5th March at 6pm at our Headquarters, 230/6 Main Street, Gibraltar. Everyone is welcome, and we hope to see you there!
