TG encouraged yet vigilant regarding post Brexit negotiations with Spain.
In a world in which every detail is thoroughly scrutinised, the image of Fabian Picardo in a bilateral meeting with the Spanish foreign minister should be interpreted as a sign that post-Brexit negotiations are happening in a productive and good will environment.
TG is encouraged by this, as well as by the constructive tone of the rhetoric emanating from both sides. Throughout the Brexit saga, TG has always held the position that positive cross-border relations are fundamental to the well being of Gibraltar, putting aside its differences with Government and staying away from other displays of cynical political point scoring. The party understands that the occasion requires political honesty and statesmanship from all sides of the political spectrum, and the recognition that the success of our Government on this issue may lay the grounds for the continued success of Gibraltar for generations.
This does not mean, however, that TG offers government a blank cheque. TG leader, Marlene Hassan Nahon has repeatedly defined the Party's red lines as "the guarantee that Gibraltarian sovereignty is never jeopardised, and that any future deal ensures mutual prosperity and conviviality in a way that is fair and transparent."
As long as these principles are respected, TG will continue to have a responsible and constructive approach to negotiations, in the hope that the best possible outcome is achieved for the people of Gibraltar.
