IRREGULAR USE OF PREMISES TO HOUSE MENTAL HEALTH RESIDENTS
It has come to the attention of Together Gibraltar that a dwelling in Sandpits Road has been used by Meddoc/GHA to house mentally ill residents without the necessary permits or technical evaluations. The company has now filed for retroactive permission (which is yet to be granted), but until this permit is granted, and throughout the last six months, the use of these premises for the aforementioned purposes has been completely irregular.
It has also become known to the Party that the premises have been recently purchased by the same company providing the services, in what would appear to be a well planned and executed deal.
Considering this is a public contract to provide services for the GHA, Together Gibraltar is deeply concerned that Government would operate in this haphazard way, setting a dangerous precedent by using a property to house vulnerable individuals that is not fit for purpose and thereby jeopardising the standards of care provided to our community.
The Party also asks the DPC what its role is in this process and would like to understand the Commission’s opinion on these irregularities. In addition, Together Gibraltar expresses concern over the welfare and viability of the residents while this back to front process takes its course.
In conclusion, the Party requests full disclosure of the terms of the contract in order to allow for adequate public scrutiny.
