Together Gibraltar Holds Meeting with LGBTQ+ Committee
Last week we were fortunate enough to host a meeting with members of the Gibraltar LGBTQ+ Committee to discuss the issues and discrimination still faced by the LGBTQ+ community in Gibraltar.
Together we discussed what steps are still missing in politics and legislation to ensure that gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Gibraltarians are treated equitably and free from prejudice.
While we expressed optimism about the strides Gibraltar had made and the committee's hosting of Gibraltar's very first Pride last June, they also identified a range of policies that are still missing to ensure that LGBTQ+ Gibraltarians are treated fairly. The issues stem from outdated practices and biases which the committee would like to address by working closely with government and political parties.
Moreover, we both had concern about the increasing instances of bullying among young people. We discussed how social media is exacerbating these problems as young people find it hard to escape abuse without being cut off from their friends and family.
Together Gibraltar reiterated its commitment to LGBTQ+ rights, stating that their party would always exist as a vanguard for these rights and to ensure that LGBTQ+ Gibraltarians receive the respect and fair treatment they deserve.
