Together Gibraltar Corrects unprofessional and Erroneous Statements by the Olive Press
We are dismayed by the lack of rigour and professionalism displayed by the Olive press, who have found it adequate to label Together Gibraltar, a party for whom equality and the environment are two of its main four policy pillars as “the most pro-business of all the parties.”
They complement this statement by saying that: “This has given rise to fears that the largest employer on the Rock, the civil service, could be the hardest hit if Together Gibraltar gets into office. Plans to privatise the public sector have been mentioned as well as comments that up to £100million was being wasted on ‘corruption’.”
If they had done some minimal research and fact checking, they would have found our press release from the 8 October 2019, Together Gibraltar Replies To Privatisation Concerns, stating categorically that “To make this issue crystal clear, Together Gibraltar does not believe in privatising any of our public services. Our economic plan includes an initiative to cut waste and redeploy efforts into more productive areas but does not plan for a reduction in workforce or a deterioration of workers’ conditions.”
They would have also found out that our estimates of the cost of corruption go up to £117m, not £100m.
They then find it adequate to refer to Sian Jones, the Together Gibraltar candidate entrusted with the portfolios of the Economy, Brexit, Financial Services and Online Gaming as a “transgender economist.”
At this stage we have grown accustomed to poor journalistic practices by the Olive press, but work produced with this level of unprofessionalism and disdain deserves to be called out.
